House concert e-mail, posted at 9:45 p.m.

Epiphany in Baltimore has moved to epiphanyinbaltimore.blogspot.com

Not much of an entry today... just an e-mail I sent to 132 people today. I'm hoping at least 25 of them will take me up on it. A week before the show, and I'm already concerned about attendance. Freaking out mode won't occur until Thursday or Friday. I also spent much of the day fliering around the city. Anyhow, here's the e-mail:

DESCRIPTION: Sam Shaber has been called the "soul of NYC folk," and she performs with an infectious energy and joy in every note. With her soulful voice, lyrical high-rises of raw, open emotion and brash NYC 'tude, she has built a large following throughout the country. Folkweb describes her as, "A riveting performer. Sam Shaber's got the whole package." Fairfield County Weekly says, "Shaber is one artist who is absolutely in the process of rising to the top." WNEW 102.7fm, NYC, praises, "Sam Shaber leads the next generation of singer/songwriters into our collective consciousness."

Shaber has been touring for five years, performing in many great rooms across the US and the UK including Fez in NYC, The 12 Bar club in London, the Mint in LA, the Iron Horse in Northampton, Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, and Club Passim in Boston. There was also a fun performance with Shawn Mullins at Olympic Centennial Park in Atlanta for about 60-65,000 people. She's also opened for and shared stages with Richie Havens, The Barenaked Ladies, John Gorka, Melissa Ferrick, and more.

Her growing list of fans includes platinum-selling pop star Shawn Mullins (singer of the #1 hit "Lullabye"), who recently signed her to his record label and produced her 4th and latest CD entitled "80 Numbered Streets." Shaber pours all of herself into every note and with fearless intimacy, brings the audience right along with her. This limitless energy combined with her unique songwriting style has earned awards from the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, as well as the Billboard and USA songwriting contests.

On a personal note (this is Epiphany here talking), I've got to say that out of all the artists I booked in the two years I coordinated The Common Grounds (www.thecommongrounds.com) in Michigan, Sam was one of my favorites. She's got this distinct and smoky voice, is a funny and charismatic performer, and her songs are both catchy and moving. Sam's got songs that are catchy enough that they'll be running through your head for months (currently, her "El Dorado" is doing this for me), and songs that are sad/emotional enough that they'll send shivers down your spine. She's one of my favorites and a great performer. I can't wait to buy her new CD when she comes for the show.

The cost of the show is $5, but please consider giving more if you can. Sam is coming a long way and what she'll make at this show if everyone gives the minimum will barely cover gas. Holden's Lair also strongly encourages that you support the artist by buying the artist's CD if you're impressed. You can hear sound clips of the new CD at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/shaber4.

MORE INFO: (Name deleted) is a house concert series for contemporary singer/songwriters and the people who love to listen to their music. We are located at (address deleted). The house is near the corner of (two streets), and there's plenty of parking (more specific directions and a photo of the house are on the website). We hold the concerts in the living room of a modified Baltimore-style row house, and there is limited space, so we ask our concert-goers to send reservations as soon as possible. All proceeds from door donations go the artist, and we encourage you to give more than the amount requested if you can and to buy the artist's music. We generally make the concerts a potluck, so bringing a dish or drink to pass is also encouraged. Shows are laid-back and fun, with high audience involvement and attentiveness, and all are invited (including kids). And please tell a friend about the place!

WEBSITE: I've added a few more photographs from earlier shows, and the schedule through the end of the year is up on the page. Directions and links are also here. Check it out: http://get.to/(name deleted).

DISCLAIMER: You were added to this mailing list either because you asked to be, or because someone thought you would be interested. You'll only get one e-mail a month, generally one week before the show date, and then sometimes another short reminder on the day before the show. If you would like to be removed, reply and ask. I'll try not to take it personally. :) Please pass this along to anyone you think might be interested in attending, and bring a friend to the show. Forwarding this e-mail is strongly encouraged.

So, seriously, if anyone is in the Baltimore area and is interested in this sort of thing, e-mail me and I'll give you more details.
