Before next March..., posted at 10:58 p.m.

Epiphany in Baltimore has moved to epiphanyinbaltimore.blogspot.com

Poor Boston. Postponing the inevitable. I was hoping that the ball Tony Clark hit in the last inning would have gone fair. Oh well. Tony Clark is the player I'm most rooting for in the postseason, especially since Curtis Pride on the Angels has been eliminated. If my Tigers cannot make it, at least I can root for ex-Tigers.

The two AL teams that remain in the hunt are my two least favorite AL teams, so I grasp for straws a bit. The last Detroit Tigers first baseman who went to the Yankees isn't doing so hot right now, so it's good to see big Tony get some playing time and at least one key hit so far.

Six things that I will do before baseball season next year:

1. Buy a house.
2. Begin grad school at Towson or possibly Loyola.
3. Get a Detroit Tigers old english D tattoo on my upper right arm.
4. Get down to 185 lbs.
5. Finish grading these damn A Lesson Before Dying essays.
6. Stop being such a lazy dater.

Four things I hope the Detroit Tigers will do before baseball season next year:

1. Acquire Mike Lowell from the Marlins in a trade for Eric Munson and a prospect or two.
2. Sign Matt Clement, Kris Benson, or Brad Radke to a three-year contract.
3. Get one decent hitting outfielder. JD Drew would be nice.
4. Get at least two quality relievers. I'm hoping for Alfonseca as one of them.

All doable, I would say.

Happy Hour details forthcoming.

Since I am really pretty worried about attendance at this show on Saturday, I'm going to use the online journal to promote my house concert series. Read on, and leave a comment or shoot an e-mail if you're interested in coming. I'm removing some of the specific contact information, but feel free to google Lori Amey to find her official website. I'd rather not link directly to her site from here.

As an aside, I've been booking Lori since 1998 at MSU. She's pretty good. Back then, when she was a student with me at State, she won a talent search and won a spot performing at Lilith Fair. She got to play her own set on the "Village Stage" there, then was able to join the big names (Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, Sinead O'Connor, Natalie Merchant) later for the big finale at the end. It was cool, and she was good. I booked her a number of times after that, at least twice a semester. She's a very nice person - funny and sweet. I've only seen her live once in the last few years, at her last house concert at my house, but it seems her songwriting is more mature than it was back in school. She's a lot like Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell, and has a really great voice. Anyhow, if that seems your thing, please come. I've only gotten 4 RSVP's so far, and that's pretty low, and I'd like to get her a big crowd. Anyone can come, so if you know anyone that would like it, pass the info on to them.

Deemed a passionate and poetic "soulful folk" musician, LORI AMEY has gained outstanding acclaim for her vocal and songwriting abilities. Unique in her own performance, her powerful and sultry vocals are likened to such performers as Sarah McLachlan and Norah Jones. From her performances, expect moving experiences portrayed through personal and introspective lyrics with memorable, penetrating melodies. A performer at the original Lilith Fair, Lori has also opened for such national acts as Duncan Shiek, Melissa Ferrick, and Patty Griffin. She has three CDs to her credit and hails from Michigan by way of Rhode Island. www.loriamey.com for more info.

Hxxoldens Lair is a house concert venue doing monthly shows since May of 2002 in Baltimore, MD. If you've never been to a House concert at Hxxolden's Lair, they are a laid back affair. Everyone usually brings a dish to pass and everyone chats in between the breaks. If we know you're coming, we often wait until you get here until we begin. The artist mingles with the fans, signing CDs and schmoozing. A box is passed around and the money is collected, and all of it goes to the performer. Children are welcome, and don't be surprised if a friendly cat jumps in your lap or starts mewing to the music, or if a slightly overweight dog gives you sad eyes, hoping for a treat off your plate. A few rules: Please try to get here before the performer begins, please bring something to pass, and please have fun. If you need to sit on a piece of furniture and not the floor, come early to grab a seat. It never hurts to bring something - a pillow, a beanbag - if you want something comfortable to sit in. I offer no illusions that the house is nice or ideal for concerts. What it is, though, is a community of people who appreciate the independent spirit in music coming together to support art and free expression. With our radios dominated by just a few corporations, this is a way for non-mainstream voices to be heard. It's also just a way to hear great music. And you'll hear it every time at Hxxolden's Lair.

Please RSVP if interested Coming Sat. Nov. 19 - Wally Pleasant
