Too much drama, posted at 1:03 p.m.

Epiphany in Baltimore has moved to epiphanyinbaltimore.blogspot.com

So much drama today. I can barely stand it. Rumor has it that the principal has resigned after some bad press in the Afro. He just called an emergency meeting for 3:20. I hope it's about how he was able to pull some strings and keep our two guidance counselors, although I doubt it.

I hate the fact that the personal motto I've adopted for the last few months is, "It could be worse." Have to have major surgery on both eyes? Well, it could be worse. So broke that I can't afford food? Well, it could be worse. Working 100 hours a week and waiting tables instead of grading papers? Well, it could be worse. Not able to see family for the holidays? Well, it could be worse.

It certainly can be worse. But on a day when my best friend is laid off, I don't know how to handle this sort of thing any more.

Seriously, 2003 is the year that I'll tell people I had amnesia. A broken heart, financial straits, major medical problems, even a little weight gain after years without. Ugh.

I felt a few times today like crying. I told each of my classes that they don't have any homework over the Thanksgiving holiday, because it's the one American holiday without any commercialism, and it's all about giving thanks and spending time with family and being together with the people you love. I told them that a few people at the school lost their job in the layoffs last night, and that they wouldn't find out who until next week but they should be thankful for everyone they have. I told them I wouldn't be going home to my family for Thanksgiving, so I would have plenty of time to grade their essays over the long weekend. A few of them invited me over to their house for the holiday (so nice!).

I want to go on to lighter topics. Like, is it unethical to offer extra credit to the first student of mine who brings me a burned copy of Jay Z's new CD? I'm loving that "99 Problems" song. Also, what should I make tonight for Thanksgiving at Randy and Felicity's tomorrow?
